A Giveaway or Two and a Reminder

Just a quick note to let you know we have two free titles available for download from our webstore.

B. Quick, by C. S. Laurel, is the first in the Quick series.  The second, Quicksand will be available this summer.

It was a night of triumphal activity for the Society For The Elimination of Good Looking Blonds.  By sheer chance, middle-aged literature professor Bill Yates interrupts a murderer in the act of dumping an unconscious young man into the local river.  Bill surprises himself by rescuing the young man and unwittingly plunges into a maelstrom of murder, psychoanalysis and Shakespeare.  Falling in love with the young man he rescued is either fitting punishment or just reward for his trouble, and it will be a long time before Bill knows which.

The second is Born in Blood, by Kate Paulk.  This is the prequel novella to Kate’s upcoming novel Impaler.  Impaler will be available later this week.

Vlad Dracul, known later in life as Vlad the Impaler, suffered more than any should at the hands of Mehmed, son of Sultan Murad.  Of all the pain and indignities brought upon him at the behest of the future ruler of the Ottoman Empire, the curse was the worst. All the young Vlad can do is try to survive and plot his vengeance.

And now the reminder.  We open for submissions on April 1st.  You can find out submission requirements here.

Deal of the Day

I’m a little late but I have a good excuse.  Really I do.  My new laptop arrived this afternoon and I just had to play, er, set it up 😉  Anyway, it’s doing the update thing so I figured I’d better get over here to announce our Deal of the Day and our free short story.

Wedding Bell Blues by Ellie Ferguson is our deal of the day.  Actually, it’s the deal of the weekend at $1.99.  That’s $2.00 off the regular price.

Weddings always bring out the worst in people. Or at least that’s the way it seems to Jessica Jones as her younger sister’s wedding day approaches. It’s bad enough Jessie has to wear a bridesmaid dress that looks like it was designed by a color blind Harlequin. Then there’s the best man who is all hands and no manners. Now add in a murder and Jessie’s former lover — former because she caught him doing the horizontal tango on their kitchen table with her also-former best friend. It really is almost more than a girl should be expected to handle. . . .

Fancy Farmer is our free short story for the weekend.  In Fancy Farmer, Pam Uphoff gives us a futuristic cooking show that is part Julia Child, part H.A.L. 9000 and all fun.  Fancy Farmer is our robotic hostess with a penchant for paisley, programmed for perky and a desire to be able to taste the food she’s cooked.

These prices are good only at our web store.  And, as always, all our titles, no DRM has been applied.

Update and Freebie Announcement

Sorry, guys, the promised e-arc will be posted in the morning.  The gods of the internet didn’t play nice this afternoon — as in my internet went down — and then I spent most of the rest of the day dealing with a furnace that decided it didn’t want to work.  Usually, in the DFW area, that’s not an issue.  But it’s cold tonight.

Any way, the e-arc will be posted in the morning.

Tomorrow’s freebie will be A Touch of Night by Sarah A. Hoyt and Sofie Skapski.  If you like Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice or if you like shapeshifters and dragons, this is the novel for you.  The downloads will be free tomorrow, starting at 9 am CST (possibly earlier) and will remain free until 9 am CST Monday.

Again, apologies for the delay.  Check back tomorrow for more information about Dave Freer’s e-arc for Without a Trace and for more information about upcoming giveaways.

Happy New Year!

I wanted to pop in for a moment to wish everyone a Happy New Year.   To kick things off here at NRP, later today we’ll be offering the e-arc of Dave Freer’s novella Without a Trace.  In this YA offering, a boy’s search for his grandfather’s crashed plane leads to a parallel South Africa with pirates and worse.  His quest to clear his grandfather’s name turns into a desperate race against time to return to his own reality with his injured grandfather.

We’ll post here and on our homepage later this afternoon when the e-arc goes live.

Also, to help kick off the New Year, starting tomorrow, we’ll be offering some of our titles for free.  These free downloads will be announced the night before (CST time) and will be available for one day only.  Specific dates and times will be listed in each announcement.  You’ll have to follow the links in the blog for the freebies.

Don’t forget that our submission period is now open.  We’re accepting submissions for short and long fiction of all genres until 2359 EST January 31st.   If you have any questions, leave a comment or send us an email to submissions at nakedreader dot com (you know how to fix it to work.  Just trying, probably in vain, to beat the spambots)

Remember, check back this afternoon for the announcement that Dave’s e-arc has gone live and for an announcement about our first freebie offering of the month.
